Introduction Letter
My name is Mía Peña. I am a freshman student at City College studying psychology. For me, it is a great achievement to have reached the university because I know how much effort I had to make to be able to have this wonderful opportunity. I am a native of the Dominican Republic, so my first language is Spanish. It was very difficult for me to deal with the contrast of languages when I moved to the United States. English has been a big barrier for me, especially in school and in the university. When I arrived in the country, my parents enrolled me in a high school that was only for Spanish-speaking people, which affected my performance in the language a lot, until I changed schools and was able to start improving my English. Up to this day, I am not the best at writing or speaking in English, but thanks to this English class I was able to improve little by little. I was able to notice my mistakes through this class, which has helped me in a significant way, and although my change is not very noticeable, I can affirm that there were changes in my English. I still do not have perfect English, but every day I make an effort little by little to improve it because I know I will need it more in my psychology career, so I will fight to improve that part of myself to become what I aspire to be someday. In this project, we will be able to identify and see the great progress I was able to make in my assignments throughout the school semester.
